Full Description

In September 2024, cybersecurity researchers at Proofpoint discovered a significant vulnerability in Microsoft 365 Copilot's data access model that could potentially expose sensitive corporate documents across organizational boundaries. The issue stemmed from Copilot's inheritance of existing SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business permission structures, which often contained legacy overly permissive access controls that organizations were unaware of.
